The Latino Chamber of Commerce of Monmouth County celebrated the Hispanic Heritage Month and Networking event, September 29, 2007 at the Gibbs Hall, Fort Monmouth.

| The event was cosponsored by Meridian Health family of medical centers of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. This event is considered very special as result of having beneath one roof a diversified and united community for “a better economic future” consistent with the Chamber’s motto. Approximately 150 persons attended the event representing academy, financial institutions, community organizations, the Chosen Board of Freeholders, and a number of Latino Business Owners as well as candidates from both
|
political parties that are running for various positions available throughout the County. Welcomed by all present was a Proclamation signed by Governor Corzine’s, governor of New Jersey in celebration of the Hispanic Heritage Month. The Chamber has been celebrating the Hispanic Heritage Month in an effort to build bridges of understanding and knowledge among the various cultures available within Monmouth County.

These students may not qualify to share in the many financial resources available to others throughout the County. These children need to get educated to secure a better future for themselves as well as for their families. The Chamber believes that the college education they would get will benefit not only our county but the country as whole. the following institutions; Monmouth County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of New Jersey, the Red Bank Regional High School, the Brookdale Community College and the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Monmouth County. Students in the program have realized that this opportunity is available to them, and consequently that education is now a reality. College, which was once a fantasy, will now become a reality for a segment of the population who had never dreamed it possible. The net proceeds from this event will be used to provide scholarships to deserving Latino students.

The children's group Takyllaqta Tuksuy Peru performed various folklore dances to the delight of those present. The dances included Negrillos and Huaylash which are typical folklore dances from the high altitude mountains of Peru. Typical flamenco dances from Spain were also performed by Natalia Cordero. Shown above are other important personalities of the Monmouth County that attended the event. The participants were also entertained by Grupo Caribe which provided the Latino sounds for all to dance.
